Claude Tag: A New Era for AI in Slack
Anthropic, a pioneering company in the field of artificial intelligence, has recently introduced a major advancement with Claude Tag. This new feature, integrated into Slack, promises to transform the way teams collaborate. Claude Tag allows AI to follow conversations in real-time, act more autonomously, and collaborate effectively with all team members.
Despite a significant outage that occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Anthropic maintained the launch schedule for Claude Tag. This innovation represents a new way to use Claude in Slack, with increased autonomy. The assistant is now capable of following conversations and managing complex tasks while retaining the context of exchanges within teams.
A Collaborative AI at the Heart of Slack
The integration of Claude Tag into Slack significantly alters the traditional functioning of the tool. Users continue to mention @Claude in channels, but the assistant no longer just responds to simple requests.
Now, when Claude is called upon, it breaks down the work into several steps. It uses the tools provided by the organization to publish results in the discussion thread. Among its capabilities are drafting pull requests, merging code, analyzing data, and assisting in resolving technical incidents.
Another key feature of Claude Tag is its memory. The AI retains the context of exchanges over several days, allowing collaborators to pick up a project without starting from scratch. Claude tracks the channel's history and gradually adapts to the team's work habits.
Anthropic is already using this version internally and claims that 65% of the code developed by its team comes from this internal version of Claude Tag.
Preserved Habits with Proactive AI
For users of Claude in Slack, habits do not change drastically. Private messages, the integrated sidebar in Slack, and mentions in channels remain available.
The real difference lies in the assistant's behavior. Claude can now schedule its own follow-ups, perform proactive checks, and intervene when discussions seem to stall. In other words, the AI is less dependent on human instructions.
This approach has the potential to simplify project tracking. Unlike humans, an AI does not forget to follow up on a pending discussion.
Moreover, Claude functions as a full-fledged member of the channel. All members interact with the same Claude, which helps maintain a shared context and facilitates the resumption of a file in the absence of a colleague.
Anthropic has announced that the current integration of Claude in Slack will be replaced by Claude Tag starting August 3, 2026. Organizations will then need to migrate to this new experience.
For now, Claude Tag is available in beta for Team and Enterprise subscriptions and is already compatible with Slack.
