Anthropic Surpasses OpenAI with Record Valuation

The artificial intelligence company, Anthropic, recently announced that it raised an impressive $65 billion in a Series H funding round. This fundraising allowed the San Francisco startup to double its post-money valuation, reaching $965 billion.

This new valuation places Anthropic ahead of its direct competitor, OpenAI, which had previously reached a valuation of $840 billion after a $110 billion funding round in February. The latter was noted as the largest fundraising ever recorded, according to Crunchbase data.

Major Investors and Strategic Support

Among Anthropic's main investors are prestigious names such as Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. Other significant players like Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, GIC, Iconiq Capital, and XN also co-led this funding round. The financing also included $15 billion in previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including $5 billion from Amazon, which also participated in OpenAI's latest funding round.

This massive funding round comes shortly after a previous raise of $30 billion during a Series G, which had valued Anthropic at $380 billion. Since its inception in 2021, the startup has raised nearly $144 billion.

Expansion and Future Prospects

Since this latest funding round, Anthropic has expanded its enterprise customer base and has seen its annual revenue exceed $47 billion. According to Krishna Rao, CFO of Anthropic, the demand for their products, particularly Claude, continues to grow. Rao emphasized the importance of this funding to meet the increasing demand and to continue innovating in the field of AI.

Anthropic is committed to making its tools, such as Claude Code and Cowork, more efficient and tailored to its clients' needs. Rao expressed the company's ambition to maintain its position at the forefront of research and to expand the use of Claude into more sectors.
