Anthropic and Claude: A New Era for European Creatives

Anthropic, the company behind the virtual assistant Claude, is tackling the creative tools market by integrating its artificial intelligence into major platforms like Adobe, Blender, and Ableton. The goal is not to replace these tools but to enhance them by automating repetitive tasks and facilitating interoperability between different applications. This initiative aims to make Claude indispensable for professionals in the creative sector, particularly in Europe.

Connectors for Seamless Integration

Eleven days after the launch of Claude Design, which had already shaken the market by impacting Figma's stock with a 7% drop, Anthropic unveiled nine new connectors. These allow users to interact with tools like Adobe Creative Cloud, Blender, and Ableton, using Claude as the interface. For example, Claude can access over 50 Adobe tools, interact with Blender's Python API to analyze scenes, or integrate with Ableton Live's documentation.

The list of connectors doesn't stop there. It also includes Autodesk Fusion, which opens 3D modeling to conversation, Affinity (Canva) for automating repetitive production tasks, Splice for connecting its catalog of royalty-free samples, Resolume for enabling VJs to control their visuals in real-time through text, and SketchUp, which transforms a description into a 3D starting point.

Each connector is based on the MCP, an open standard launched by Anthropic in late 2024, which facilitates integration with the APIs of various services. Notably, the connector for Blender is also compatible with other language models, and Anthropic has joined the Blender Development Fund to support the maintenance of the Python API.

A Steady Launch Pace

Anthropic opened its first professional connectors in January, followed by free tools in February, and everyday applications last week, such as Spotify, Uber, and Booking.com. The pace is brisk with four waves of connectors in four months, demonstrating Anthropic's commitment to quickly establishing itself in the market.

Implications for Creatives in France

The connectors are available in Europe on all Claude subscriptions, including the free plan. Anthropic opened an office in Paris in 2025, led by Thomas Remy, a former Google Cloud executive, and offers a French version of Claude. However, the use of these connectors raises questions about data management, particularly regarding compliance with GDPR.

The connectors allow not only reading but also modifying files within applications, which can pose issues if these files contain sensitive data. On consumer offerings, conversations can be retained for up to five years and used for training models unless the user opts out. Commercial offerings, on the other hand, exclude this reuse by default.

A Well-Defined Strategy

Anthropic is not looking to directly compete with software like Photoshop or Ableton but aims to become an intermediary layer facilitating data synchronization and task automation. As noted on Anthropic's official blog, "Claude cannot replace good taste and imagination." However, the integration of Claude into creative processes raises questions of accountability, particularly concerning the results generated by AI.

The AI Act may soon clarify these responsibilities, but for now, European studios must carefully assess the implications of using Claude in their production pipelines.
