Anthropic has recently introduced a major advancement for its Claude Code tool by integrating a new channel feature. This innovation allows Claude Code to remain active and responsive, even when the user is not present at their terminal. With this update, messages, notifications, and webhooks can now be integrated directly into an ongoing session, enabling Claude to react to various events such as continuous integration (CI) results, chat messages, or monitoring alerts.
The channels operate via MCP servers, providing bidirectional communication. This means that Claude is capable of reading an incoming message and responding through the same channel. Currently, the search preview supports popular platforms such as Telegram and Discord. Additionally, developers have the option to create their own custom channels, thereby expanding Claude Code's integration capabilities.
To take advantage of this feature, users must have version 2.1.80 or later of Claude Code and a claude.ai account. It is important to note that API keys are not supported for this feature. Furthermore, Enterprise teams and organizations must explicitly enable channels to fully benefit from them. All necessary details for activating and using these channels are available in the official documentation provided by Anthropic. This advancement brings Anthropic's tools closer to the excitement surrounding AI agents, similar to OpenClaw.
