Claude's memory is now shared between chat and Cowork, and can be accessed for reading, editing, or deletion. By default, this feature is enabled on Free, Pro, and Max plans, across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, with an update required for iOS and Android. Anthropic regulates the collection of sensitive elements, with an opt-in and dedicated notifications. The continuous addition of topics is also expected to speed up synchronization between the two interfaces.

Regulated Sensitive Data and Categories Never Retained

Anthropic states that, in general, Claude does not record personal or sensitive information, including health data, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, political opinions, or gender identity. However, users can activate the option to "include sensitive topics in memory" if they wish. The application notifies users each time a sensitive topic is added to memory. The company further specifies that certain data will never be saved, such as government identification numbers and social security numbers, criminal records, immigration status, or any elements contrary to its acceptable use policy.

Default Activation on Free, Pro, Max and Required Mobile Update

Memory is activated by default on all Free, Pro, and Max plans. It is also enabled on web, desktop, and mobile versions. On iOS and Android, users must update the application to its latest version to benefit from this feature.

A Unique Memory Between Chat and Cowork, Visible and Editable

Anthropic announces the merging of the memory systems of chat and Cowork, allowing Claude to reuse what has been learned from one context to another. The memorized content becomes visible, and users can read, modify, or delete it. Claude now adds topics throughout the conversation rather than at the end of the exchange, and these elements are shared more quickly between chat and Cowork, even while the discussion is ongoing. This development is presented as facilitating the back-and-forth between the two experiences.

Less Re-entry Between Ideas and Execution, with Use Cases to Support

Before this development, it was possible to feed project ideas into the chat, but users then had to re-enter the details into Cowork to move to implementation. Now, Claude acts as a single interlocutor throughout the process, which is intended to eliminate redundancy of already communicated information and facilitate the transition from the research phase to the execution phase. Anthropic gives the example of creating a note for a manager or preparing a conference agenda: Cowork would already have information from previous exchanges, knowing how many people are expected, where the event is taking place, and who the speakers are, thus avoiding the need to re-enter this data.
