Apple, always at the forefront of technological innovation, is venturing into the development of screenless smart glasses. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, these glasses will be part of an ecosystem of AI wearable devices, which will also include AirPods and a camera pendant. The goal is to capture the user's environment through computer vision, enabling Siri and Apple Intelligence to offer advanced features such as enhanced navigation instructions and visual reminders.
The glasses, internally codenamed N50, are expected to be released between late 2026 and early 2027. They will be distinguished by vertically oriented oval camera lenses, a design choice that Apple has decided to manage in-house, unlike its competitors such as Meta, Google, and Samsung, which collaborate with established eyewear manufacturers. These glasses will rely on a new version of Siri, set to debut with iOS 27.
Additionally, former Apple AI chief John Giannandrea is leaving the company for good this week. His role had already been diminished in 2025 following the lackluster launch of Apple Intelligence, marking a turning point in Apple's AI strategy.
