Apple and the Impact of AI on Prices
Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, recently spoke about the inevitability of price increases within the company, describing the current pricing policy as unsustainable. This statement comes as several flagship Apple products see their prices rise.
The MacBook Pro 16-inch has experienced a price increase of $300, while the price of the iPad Air 11-inch has jumped from $599 to $749. Even the HomePod Mini, a more affordable product, has seen its price rise by $30, now reaching $129.
AI and Economic Dynamics
Cook attributed these price hikes to the growing influence of the artificial intelligence industry. This phenomenon, dubbed RAMageddon, has already impacted the prices of desktop computers and gaming consoles. For instance, the Xbox has seen a price increase of nearly 25% depending on the model, and the company Nothing even canceled the launch of a new phone due to these economic pressures.
Apple is not the only company adjusting its prices in response to these challenges. However, Cook's explicit mention of AI highlights the significant impact this technology has on production costs and, consequently, on retail prices.
