The entry-level models of the Mac Mini and Mac Studio increase by $100 compared to the previous generation. The Mac Mini equipped with the M6 chip starts at $899, while its configuration with M5 Pro is priced at $1,699. On the workstation side, the Mac Studio with M5 Max starts at $2,499. The entry price for an M5 Ultra with 96 GB of unified memory is set at $5,499. At this price point, the offering is positioned outside the consumer computer segment and targets professional use, particularly in artificial intelligence.
M5 Ultra Architecture and Announced AI Performance
The update introduces three chips on Mac Mini and Mac Studio: M6, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra. The M5 Ultra adopts a four-die architecture resulting from the assembly of two M5 Max chips. Apple presents the M5 Ultra as its most powerful chip, claiming AI performance four times greater than that of the M3 Ultra. The chip features a 36-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, with configurations possible up to 512 GB of unified memory. Such a memory ceiling is described as sufficient to run very large language models locally.
Connectivity and Displays: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thunderbolt 5
Connectivity evolves with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Up to six Thunderbolt 5 ports are offered, with speeds reaching up to 120 Gb/s. These machines can drive up to eight external monitors or four Studio Display XDRs at 5K resolution at 120 Hz.
