Apple is set to transform the user experience of Siri by allowing the integration of third-party AI chatbots. According to a report from Bloomberg, the upcoming iOS 27 update will offer the option to choose from various AI chatbots to interact with Siri. Among the available options will be Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, which can be downloaded from the App Store.
This new feature, dubbed "Extensions," will give users control over which chatbots they wish to enable or disable for use with Siri. This flexibility will extend across multiple Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Additionally, Apple plans to launch a standalone app for an enhanced version of Siri, which will be able to proactively interact with other applications.
Apple has already begun collaborating with Google to modernize Siri, an initiative revealed last January. A report from The Information indicates that this agreement includes the possibility for Apple to use Gemini to train smaller AI models.
The new versions of Apple’s operating systems, incorporating these features, are expected to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which will begin on June 8.
