Apple appears ready to revolutionize its voice assistant Siri with the upcoming release of iOS 27. According to a Bloomberg report published on Tuesday, the Cupertino company is currently testing a standalone Siri app, a revamped interface, and a new "Ask Siri" button. These changes aim to make the assistant more visible and functional across the entire Apple ecosystem, as part of a broader overhaul of its artificial intelligence capabilities.
The new version of Siri is expected to be unveiled at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled for June 8. It will then be integrated into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and MacOS 27 later this year. Bloomberg indicates that Apple is working on a Siri that would resemble a more autonomous AI chatbot, similar to ChatGPT or Claude, rather than the integrated assistant we know today.
This initiative is part of a larger strategy by Apple to reposition Siri against competitors like OpenAI and Google. In January, Bloomberg had already mentioned Apple's ambitions to transform Siri into a true AI chatbot. This transformation could mark a turning point after several delays in the development of advanced features for Siri. Although customized versions of Siri were showcased at WWDC 2024, their rollout was postponed, and Apple now seems to be aiming for a more comprehensive relaunch with iOS 27.
For now, Apple has not officially confirmed these new features for iOS 27, and plans may still evolve before the conference. An Apple representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
