Apple Integrates AI into Shortcuts in iOS 27

Apple announced at its annual WWDC 2026 event the integration of AI into its Shortcuts app with the launch of iOS 27. This evolution aims to make the visual scripting tool more accessible, even for non-technical users.

The Shortcuts app, initially designed for advanced users, allows for the automation of repetitive tasks and the creation of complex workflows. Now, thanks to AI, users can simply describe in natural language what they want to accomplish, and the app takes care of creating the necessary steps.

Apple Intelligence, the engine behind this feature, interprets the descriptions provided by users to automatically generate the required actions. Celcia Dantas, Senior Director of Software Product Marketing for Home, acknowledged during the keynote that the process of creating shortcuts could be perceived as complex, but this update significantly simplifies it.

A concrete example presented by Dantas shows how a user could set up a shortcut to automatically notify their partner when they leave work, providing an ETA (estimated time of arrival) via Apple Maps and Messages. This type of automation, which was previously complex, becomes as simple as typing a request.

Users also have the option to modify shortcuts by describing the desired changes. For example, they can add an action to launch a favorite podcast after leaving work.

The updated version of Shortcuts will be available with iOS 27 this fall, promising to make task automation more intuitive and accessible to everyone.
