The Rise of Atlassian's Stock Thanks to AI
Atlassian's stock saw a spectacular increase of 35% last Friday. This surge is directly linked to the impact of artificial intelligence on the company's revenue growth. Indeed, AI is not only transforming the roles of software developers but also expanding these roles, thereby stimulating demand for Atlassian's flagship products, Jira and Confluence.
An Expanded Use of Technological Tools
The impact of AI is manifested by an increased use of technological tools by individuals who are not traditionally developers. Atlassian has observed that its tools are now being utilized by a broader audience, illustrating how AI enables more people to engage in software creation. This trend shows that AI is not merely replacing developers but is opening the door for a greater number of potential creators.
Initial Fears Regarding AI
Initially, one of the biggest concerns about AI was that it could harm jobs in the tech sector. The logic seemed relentless: if AI significantly increased developers' productivity, companies would need fewer staff. This could have led to a decrease in software subscriptions, as each employee typically has their own account, or "seat."
A Shift in Perspective for Atlassian
Investors were also worried that AI would enable companies to develop their own software, thereby reducing their reliance on established vendors. Atlassian, a major player in selling collaboration and project management tools, saw its stock drop by more than 50% in early 2026 due to these concerns.
A New Reality for the Developer Market
However, the situation has radically changed. Atlassian's stock rebounded by 35% following the announcement of increased revenue, supported by growth in "seats" for its Jira and Confluence products. This indicates that AI could actually create more positions for software developers, rather than reducing tech jobs.
Optimistic Outlook for the Future
Mike Cannon-Brookes, CEO and co-founder of Atlassian, expressed his optimism about the future of the sector. He stated, "There will be more developers in the world in five years than there are today." According to him, the recruitment of developers will continue to grow as the cost of creating technologies decreases and the amount of technology created increases.
A Shared Vision by Nvidia
This vision is echoed by Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, who predicted that AI would significantly ease software writing, making this skill accessible to a larger number of people. "Programming language is human; everyone in the world is now a programmer," he said.
Growing Adoption Among Enterprises
Atlassian is witnessing this trend among its enterprise clients. The company revealed that the growth in "seats" is not solely coming from software developers. About two-thirds of Jira and Confluence users now hold positions in fields such as human resources, finance, and legal.
AI as a Catalyst for New Opportunities
According to Mike Cannon-Brookes, "the number of people building technologies that we don't necessarily classify as developers is also on the rise." In other words, AI is not replacing developers but seems to be expanding the number of people capable of creating software. If this trend continues, the feared collapse of software jobs and subscriptions may never occur. On the contrary, AI could generate a much larger pool of technology creators, opening an even broader market for companies like Atlassian.
