Meta draws inspiration from giants like Google and Reddit to enhance Facebook with AI-powered features. In a recent blog post, the American group announced the launch of AI Mode, a new conversational search option. This feature, powered by Meta AI, relies on users' public posts to respond to queries made in natural language. However, Meta has not yet specified when this option will be available in France.
AI Mode: A New Approach to Search on Facebook
Since June 15, 2026, AI Mode has been gradually integrated into Facebook's search bar, alongside the People, Reels, and Marketplace tabs. The principle is simple: users ask questions in natural language, and Meta's AI generates synthesized responses based on the platform's public content, particularly from groups and Reels. Users can also ask follow-up questions to refine their searches or obtain additional information.
This feature is reminiscent of similar initiatives by Reddit, which offers an AI search that synthesizes posts and comments via a Request button, as well as Google’s AI Overviews, which aggregate web content to answer queries. AI Mode is also in line with the Ask tab of Forum, a standalone app dedicated to Facebook groups that Meta quietly launched at the end of May.
AI Mode is based on Muse Spark, the AI model that Meta unveiled on April 8, 2026. This model aims to close the gap for Meta against competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. According to the collaborative benchmark Arena, Spark is one of the few models capable of competing in performance with those from Anthropic.
AI Creative Tools to Enrich User Experience
In addition to the AI Mode option, Meta has announced the rollout of several content creation tools on Facebook, all powered by AI. Among these new features are collage suggestions generated from the user's image library, new transition effects for share-ready video edits, and presets to virtually change one's outfit or appearance. The Wear It option allows users to virtually wear a sports team's jersey, while Wardrobe offers the ability to retouch a profile picture to appear in different clothing.
Meta has not yet specified the rollout schedule for these creative tools or the countries involved. These innovations are part of Meta's strategy to enhance user engagement and maintain competitiveness against other digital platforms.
