The newsletter platform Beehiiv recently announced the deep integration of chatbots like Claude and ChatGPT into its services. This new feature, available exclusively to paid users, allows for the automation of various publishing tasks, such as adding meta descriptions and tagging posts, through text prompts.
In a market where competition is fierce among Beehiiv, Substack, and Ghost, the integration of AI could very well be the deciding factor in attracting content creators. Beehiiv unveiled these innovations exclusively to Business Insider, highlighting the growing importance of AI chatbots in the newsletter space.
Among the use cases highlighted by Tyler Denk, CEO of Beehiiv, are the creation of story templates tailored to a writer's brand and the crafting of SEO-optimized headlines. The tool employs a context protocol model (CPM) to offer these advanced functionalities.
Users like Jaan Juurikas, who writes the EVwire newsletter, have already adopted these tools. By training Claude to match his writing style, Juurikas has managed to double his content output, reaching 14,000 subscribers. He claims that Claude can produce drafts that are 90% ready, emphasizing the efficiency of AI in the creative process.
However, not all users are willing to fully entrust their writing to AI. Brandon Smithwrick, for example, prefers to draft his pieces in Notion while using the CPM tool to analyze the performance of his articles.
The balance between automation and human creativity remains crucial. As Denk stated, subscribers will choose to support creators who genuinely meet their expectations, and the quality of AI-generated content will need to be up to par to maintain reader interest.
