Carrefour Joins ChatGPT to Transform the Shopping Experience
ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is no longer just an artificial intelligence chatbot; it has evolved into a true operating system. This evolution comes with the creation of tools that allow third-party services to connect to its AI, as well as an app store where users can discover specialized extensions for various uses. For example, Adobe's ChatGPT applications allow users to edit images without leaving the chatbot interface. Similarly, Spotify and Apple Music applications offer the ability to use prompts to discover playlists directly on ChatGPT. Now, Carrefour has joined this list with a dedicated application to facilitate shopping.
Announced on Thursday, the Carrefour application is already available on ChatGPT. To take advantage of it, users simply need to go to the applications section of ChatGPT and search for Carrefour in the app store. Once connected, the Carrefour application allows users to obtain recipes, check product availability on shelves, and create a shopping cart by conversing with the artificial intelligence. The order must then be finalized on the Carrefour website.
Carrefour Navigates the AI Shift
With this new application, Carrefour hopes to reach the 26 million ChatGPT users in France. The company emphasizes its pioneering role in adopting artificial intelligence. In 2023, Carrefour launched an AI assistant named Hopla on its website, followed by an enhanced version called Hopla+ in 2025. Additionally, Carrefour supports Google's Universal Commerce Protocol, a technology designed to enable artificial intelligence agents to interact with e-commerce sites.
It is important to note that AI agents already exist to take control of a browser and fill e-commerce carts on behalf of users. ChatGPT applications, like Carrefour's, allow for the adaptation of AI to specialized tasks. While the Carrefour application simplifies shopping management, the finalization of the order still takes place on the Carrefour website, ensuring a smooth and secure user experience.
