ChatGPT Accounts for 55.5% of AI Chatbot Web Traffic, Gemini Declines

Web traffic shares of chatbots are changing: ChatGPT rises to 55.5% while Gemini declines to 25.6%. However, these measurements only cover websites and ignore mobile and app usage that may be significant.

The figures exclude mobile and app, caution on the scale

The published shares only pertain to website traffic. Many interactions with Gemini on mobile through the Android ecosystem are not accounted for, as some notifications open the Gemini app directly with a summary instead of a web link. On the OpenAI side, the ChatGPT mobile app and the desktop version ChatGPT Work are not included in these statistics.

Current shares: 55.5% for ChatGPT, 25.6% for Gemini

ChatGPT has seen its web traffic share increase from 52.7% three months ago to 55.5% recently. Meanwhile, Google Gemini has dropped from 27.8% to 25.6%. ChatGPT remains the most visited AI chatbot site according to Similarweb.

Over the year, decline for ChatGPT and gains for Gemini and Claude

Over twelve months, ChatGPT has decreased from 73.3% to its current level, although it has recently stabilized. Gemini has doubled its share during this period, while Claude from Anthropic has risen from 1.9% to 9.3%. Other players remain more modest: DeepSeek at 3.4%, Grok at 2.4%, Copilot at 1.6%, and Perplexity at 0.9%. Gemini and Claude are making gains, while the others stagnate.
