On Wednesday afternoon, a temporary outage affected the operation of ChatGPT, OpenAI's famous chatbot, for several users in the United States. Starting at 4 PM Pacific Time, some users encountered an error displaying "Content not loaded." This disruption was resolved around 4:30 PM, allowing access to the service once again.
CNET employees located in Seattle and Sacramento, California, reported that the site redirected them to a blank page. A user in Los Angeles was able to bypass the issue by reconnecting, while others were unable to access the site long enough to attempt a login.
The site DownDetector, which monitors outages of online services, noted a significant increase in error reports concerning OpenAI's sites, primarily for ChatGPT. Starting at 3 PM Pacific Time, a sharp rise in reports was observed, peaking at 788 simultaneous reports. In total, over 3,000 reports were recorded over a 24-hour period, with 78% of them related to ChatGPT. The outage was classified as a medium-level disruption, concentrated in major U.S. hubs.
DownDetector, currently owned by Ziff Davis, the parent company of CNET, was sold to Accenture in March. A representative from OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comments regarding this outage.
