The Expanding AI Tools Market

The market for artificial intelligence tools has experienced impressive growth, reaching 144.5 billion web visits over the past twelve months. This 40.12% increase compared to the previous year is revealed by a study conducted by OneLittleWeb, a US-based SEO agency. The study analyzed a total of 9,531 tools across more than 170 different categories. Among these tools, the top 100 captured 129.6 billion visits, representing 89.69% of the total.

Methodology of the OneLittleWeb Study

OneLittleWeb's study relies on web visit estimates provided by the platforms Semrush and Ahrefs, covering two rolling twelve-month periods from May 2024 to April 2026. It is important to note that this analysis does not take into account mobile applications, enterprise usage, or API calls. However, it includes software that integrates AI features such as Salesforce, Zoom, or HubSpot.

These methodological choices influence the discrepancies observed in the results. For example, a competing ranking conducted by Andreessen Horowitz, which includes mobile data, reported in January 2026 that ChatGPT's traffic was 2.7 times higher than that of Gemini. In contrast, OneLittleWeb's estimate places this ratio at 9.4 times.

ChatGPT and Canva Lead the Rankings

ChatGPT stands out significantly by capturing 64.7 billion visits, accounting for 44.76% of the total visits recorded and 49.92% of those in the top 100. Over the course of a year, ChatGPT gained an additional 26.6 billion visits, surpassing the combined growth of the next nine most popular tools. Canva ranks second with 10.5 billion visits, although it is not a direct competitor to ChatGPT.

Here are the ten most visited AI tools during this period:

  • ChatGPT, 64.7 billion visits (+69.80%)
  • Canva, 10.5 billion (+15.54%)
  • Gemini, 6.9 billion (+450.33%)
  • Google Translate, 4.8 billion (-23.46%)
  • DeepSeek, 3.8 billion (+129.10%)
  • Claude, 3.4 billion (+250.07%)
  • Grok, 2.5 billion (+731.26%)
  • Perplexity, 2.3 billion (+98.38%)
  • Magnific (Freepik), 1.8 billion (-7.77%)
  • Character AI, 1.7 billion (-6.47%)

Analysis of AI Tool Categories

Although only eleven tools belong to the chatbot category, they account for 66.2% of the visits in the top 100. In contrast, the 59 tools classified in the "others" category total only 11.4% of the visits. Across the entire top 100, monthly traffic varied, peaking at 13.4 billion visits in March 2026 before dropping back to 11.6 billion in April.

The study also includes an analysis of per capita adoption, where Singapore stands out with 16.1 million visits per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by the Netherlands, Australia, the United States, and Switzerland. However, this indicator should be interpreted with caution, as Singapore hosts a significant share of data centers and VPN exits in the region.

It is also noteworthy that no French tool appears in the top 100. A survey conducted among 807 digital professionals, primarily in France, had placed Vibe (formerly Le Chat) with 11.8% of users for text generation. Claude, although 19 times less visited than ChatGPT, was cited by 48.8% of respondents compared to 64.7% for ChatGPT. This shows that web traffic and reported usage do not always tell the same story.

Five Categories, Five Distinct Markets

Chatbots Dominate with 59% of Visits

Among the 231 chatbots tracked, eleven are in the top 100, capturing 85.8 billion visits. The other 220 share a meager 0.2% of their own category. The overall volume of visits has nearly doubled in a year, reaching 86 billion, or 59.49% of the total visits recorded. Only DeepAI saw a decrease among the top ten.

The top 10 chatbots according to OneLittleWeb:

  • ChatGPT, 64.7 billion visits
  • Gemini, 6.9 billion
  • DeepSeek, 3.8 billion
  • Claude, 3.4 billion
  • Grok, 2.5 billion
  • Perplexity, 2.3 billion
  • Microsoft Copilot, 1.2 billion
  • Manus, 298.8 million
  • Meta AI, 284.9 million
  • DeepAI, 211.5 million (-24.13%)

Image Generation: A Competitive Sector

In the image generation category, the top-ranked tool is losing ground while its competitors gain. Seven of the top ten tools have progressed, with Seaart.ai increasing by 78.81% and Photoroom by 41.69%, although the overall volume remained stable at 3.5 billion visits. The ranking includes many all-in-one and versatile aggregator tools.

The first place should be viewed with caution: OneLittleWeb attributes 1.8 billion visits to Magnific, an image scaling tool acquired by Freepik. This figure seems to correspond to the overall traffic of Freepik, a visual content bank, rather than that of an image generator, which calls this top position into question.

The top 10 image generators according to OneLittleWeb:

  • Magnific (Freepik), 1.8 billion visits
  • Seaart.ai, 292.7 million
  • Photoroom, 273.6 million
  • Leonardo AI, 239.2 million
  • Midjourney, 211.9 million
  • Pixlr, 203.4 million
  • Adobe Firefly, 100 million
  • Remaker, 98.8 million
  • Topaz Labs, 41.6 million
  • Recraft, 40 million

Canva Dominates Design with Over 96% of Visits

In the design field, Canva crushes the competition by absorbing over 96% of visits, with 10.5 billion over twelve months. The next nine tools combined only total 297 million visits, equivalent to ten days of traffic for Canva. Microsoft Designer, Phot AI, and Designs AI have all lost more than half of their audience.

The top 10 AI design platforms:

  • Canva, 10.5 billion visits
  • Ideogram, 95.9 million (-40.92%)
  • Renderforest, 46.9 million
  • BeFunky, 43.4 million
  • Kittl, 38.8 million
  • Microsoft Designer, 28.1 million (-55.63%)
  • Dzine, 20.5 million (+41.35%)
  • Shakker AI, 10.2 million
  • Phot AI, 7.7 million
  • Designs AI, 5.9 million

Project Management: A Market Without a Clear Leader

The project management category, although it includes 285 references, generated only 2.6 billion visits. ClickUp leads with 20.73% of the category's visits but remains close to its competitors Asana AI and Monday. Notion has seen its traffic multiply by 2.5 over twelve months.

The top 10 project management tools according to OneLittleWeb:

  • ClickUp, 532.7 million visits (+36.96%)
  • Asana AI, 508.9 million (-0.68%)
  • Monday, 474.8 million
  • Airtable, 338.2 million
  • Odoo, 284.6 million
  • Notion, 207.7 million (+153.28%)
  • ServiceNow, 40.2 million
  • Whimsical, 20.8 million
  • Motion, 14.7 million
  • Contra, 14.3 million

Video: A Sector in Constant Evolution

In the video domain, the rankings evolve each year. Higgsfield AI surged from 34.9 to 310.5 million visits, taking the lead without exceeding 12.13% of the category's visits, while Google Veo 3 experienced a spectacular increase of 711.07%. Wondershare, InVideo AI, and Vidnoz AI all declined. Video recorded the best growth outside of chatbots (+31.24%), but positions are the most unstable, with many aggregators and multimodal platforms.

The top 10 video tools according to OneLittleWeb:

  • Higgsfield AI, 310.5 million visits (+790.59%)
  • Kling AI, 248.5 million
  • Wondershare, 190.2 million (-27.14%)
  • HeyGen, 169 million (+193.99%)
