Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, the use of generative artificial intelligence to respond to messages on dating sites has been widely discussed in the media. This trend, which initially seemed emerging, has now taken root in France. A recent study conducted by Nation.fr, reported by Sud Radio, sheds light on this evolution.
This summer, 37% of study participants admitted to having used AI, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, to attract partners online. Furthermore, 29% of respondents are considering using these technologies in the future. Thus, for about two-thirds of those surveyed, the idea of using AI to assist in their romantic interactions seems perfectly normal.
However, this reliance on AI for seduction raises questions about the authenticity of online exchanges. Interactions may lose their sincerity, which could lead to disappointments when relationships transition from virtual to real life.
AI Beyond Simple Messaging
Artificial intelligence is not limited to drafting messages for online dating. The study reveals that 49% of users of these technologies also seek AI to analyze interactions with their matches. When a date is scheduled, AI can also be used to choose the ideal location.
In addition to these functions, generative AI is employed to create bios on dating sites and to retouch profile images. Although these practices may seem surprising, they fit into a broader trend of increased AI usage in various aspects of daily life. By 2026, the integration of AI into the professional world is already well established, particularly for managing emails, creating documents, or analyzing information. Users are simply transposing these tools from their professional lives to their personal interactions on dating apps.
According to the study, 37% of French people used AI to attract partners this summer, and 29% plan to do so, indicating that two-thirds of respondents find this practice normal.
