OpenAI adds a Computer History feature to its Mac application that records clicks and keystrokes, building a searchable timeline for ChatGPT and Codex. The option can be manually activated, with the ability to exclude apps or websites and delete entries. According to Ari Weinstein (OpenAI), private/incognito modes would be ignored. This feature transforms actions into training data to learn your usage patterns, suggest automations, and resume unfinished tasks.
Users activate History and can exclude or delete
The Computer History feature is offered as opt-in and must be activated by the user. Filters allow for the exclusion of certain applications as well as websites, and entries can be deleted for finer control. Ari Weinstein from OpenAI states on X that content viewed in incognito mode or private browsing will be automatically ignored.
The feature learns usage patterns, suggests automations, and resumes tasks
Actions performed on the computer are converted into training data. This processing enables ChatGPT to learn the user's working style. The feature can then suggest automations and resume tasks that were left unfinished.
On macOS, clicks and keystrokes feed a timeline for ChatGPT and Codex
In the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS, the new feature tracks clicks and keystrokes. It compiles these activities into a searchable timeline upon request. This timeline is accessible to both ChatGPT and Codex.
