ChatGPT Mobile Adopts Voice to Manage Work Tasks

OpenAI is rolling out voice commands on iOS and Android to trigger actions in ChatGPT, similar to those already available on desktop with GPT-Live. The company promises a seamless transition between text and voice, as well as continuity between mobile and desktop, while maintaining its separation between chats and workspaces.

OpenAI Expands GPT-Live to Mobile and Distinguishes Itself from Anthropic

In July, OpenAI launched GPT-Live and then integrated it into the desktop application to enable voice usage in the Work tab or the creation of applications via the Codex tab. The new rollout now brings similar capabilities to mobile. Meanwhile, Anthropic has facilitated the transition between mobile and desktop and merged its Cowork and Chat interfaces, while OpenAI maintains a separation between chats and workspaces.

What Voice Commands on Smartphones Promise

OpenAI is introducing voice features in the ChatGPT mobile app to trigger workflows such as document drafting or email summarization. The company reports an improvement in text display during voice interactions, the ability to easily switch from text to voice, and the option to start a conversation on the go before continuing it on a computer. This development comes as voice is increasingly used by users to perform complex tasks via AI assistants.

Access by Subscription: Plus/Pro First, Free/Go with Plugins

Plus and Pro subscribers will be able to use the Work tab on their phones to create documents, draft emails, or summarize Slack messages, and access other functions such as website creation, presentations, cloud browsing, and domains like finance. Users of the Free and Go versions, on the other hand, will be able to work with plugins and connected applications.
