Rathesh Prabakar, a young software engineer based in Bengaluru, India, made a bold decision in October 2025: to leave his job without a new opportunity in sight. At 26, he bet on ChatGPT to transform his job search into a quick and efficient quest. In less than a month, he successfully landed a new position as a software engineer, proving that AI can be a powerful ally in the professional world. After four years in the tech sector, Prabakar was feeling an increasing fatigue with the monotony of his work. Graduating in 2021, he had climbed the ranks to become a senior software engineer at a billing company. However, the desire to explore new horizons and see how other industries tackled user challenges pushed him to consider a change. After careful thought, he decided to resign in October 2025.

Prabakar was financially supporting his parents and explained to them that he believed he would have a better chance of finding a new job after leaving his current position, thus avoiding any delay in starting at a new company due to his notice period. His parents agreed to support him in this risky endeavor.

In a context where AI seemed to threaten certain jobs and companies were cautious in their hiring, Prabakar feared he might not find a new position quickly. However, armed with his 4.5 years of experience and skills, he decided to take on the challenge.

AI as a Job Search Accelerator

Prabakar's job search turned out to be quite a challenge. He had initially planned to take advantage of his 90-day notice period, but quickly discovered it would only last 15 days. Faced with this deadline, he spent the first two days after his resignation updating his LinkedIn profile and CV, incorporating his most recent projects and skills. Every morning, he dedicated two hours to applying for jobs online, and in the evenings, he prepared for interviews, sometimes until midnight.

With no time to customize each CV for every application, Prabakar adjusted his preparation based on the job descriptions. Having already used AI to learn in his previous job, he decided to leverage it for his job search. He asked the AI to act as a CV writing expert, having crafted over 100 CVs. Convinced that well-formulated prompts could enhance results, he refined his requests to the AI.

When he secured an interview, Prabakar provided ChatGPT with details about his skills, experience, and the job description, asking for a tailored preparation plan according to his schedule. The AI suggested potential interview questions, often aligned with the job description. Many of these questions indeed came up during the interviews, which excited him. For questions he couldn't answer, he noted them down and later asked the AI to help him prepare for future interviews. He also sought the AI's assistance in explaining technical concepts he was less familiar with, as if he were a beginner.

Prabakar was aware of the limitations of AI and manually verified some questionable responses on Google. Overall, he found the tool to be very accurate and helpful.

The Importance of Human Connections

Alongside his use of AI, Prabakar also relied on his human connections. Very active on LinkedIn, he regularly shared his thoughts on frontend development and software engineering, which played a key role in his job search.

When he spotted a job opening for a software engineer at a company where an acquaintance worked, he took the initiative to reach out. This person, although not very familiar with him, had noticed his posts and knowledge in the field, prompting her to recommend him for the position. Thanks to this recommendation, Prabakar quickly received an invitation for an interview.

After successfully passing the technical interviews, he accepted a job offer in early November, less than a month after leaving his previous position. This swift success boosted his confidence and taught him the importance of believing in his abilities and using his time wisely.

Prabakar found that AI could significantly accelerate the job search process, saving him from wasting time sifting through numerous websites. For him, AI became a valuable ally, enabling rapid progress when used wisely. By stepping out of his comfort zone, he discovered new opportunities and a richer professional world.
