ChatGPT and Google Gemini: The Battle of Chatbots Intensifies
The chatbot market is undergoing significant evolution, with OpenAI's ChatGPT continuing to dominate, although its lead is gradually eroding. According to recent data from Similarweb, ChatGPT captured 61.7% of global web traffic related to artificial intelligence in February 2026. This figure marks a notable decline from the 75.7% recorded a year earlier.
The main beneficiary of this market share redistribution is Google Gemini. The latter has seen its market share more than quadruple, rising from 5.7% to 24.4% during the same period. This impressive growth positions Google Gemini as ChatGPT's primary rival.
Meanwhile, other players like Grok and Claude have also made strides in the rankings. Grok reached a market share of 3.4%, while Claude surpassed the 3% mark for the first time, with a share of 3.3%. Both chatbots have thus outperformed DeepSeek, which now finds itself in fifth place with 3.2%. Notably, Claude is much stronger in the B2B market, according to a separate study.
In terms of absolute visits, ChatGPT recorded 5.35 billion visits in February, compared to 2.11 billion for Google Gemini. Grok and Claude totaled 298.5 million and 290.3 million visits, respectively, while DeepSeek counted 246.4 million. Perplexity, for its part, attracted 153.8 million visits.
Microsoft, with its Copilot, remains stable with a market share of 1.1% on the web version. However, this statistic does not reflect the entirety of its influence, particularly in the enterprise market where its presence could be much more significant.
