Five Eyes: AI Could Transform Cyberwarfare
The intelligence agencies of the Five Eyes warn that AI models capable of overthrowing governments and businesses are just months away. This is reported by the Guardian.
In a rare joint statement, the signal intelligence agencies from Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada urge leaders in both the public and private sectors to "act now." Advanced AI models are expected to exceed current industry expectations and fundamentally transform offensive and defensive cyber capabilities: "The timeline is not several years, but just a few months."
The agencies emphasize that cyber risk can "no longer be viewed as a purely technical issue," but must be seen as a "core business risk and a leadership responsibility." AI lowers the barriers for malicious actors and increases the speed and complexity of attacks.
This statement comes shortly after the Trump administration—acting on the advice of national security authorities—decided to block access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models from Anthropic for "foreign nationals." U.S. intelligence agencies had early access to the models; employees from Anthropic are collaborating with the NSA.
