Claude Code: Record Speed but Exorbitant Price Compared to OpenCode
Claude Code is the fastest agent framework, but its cost is nearly three times higher than that of the cheapest competitor.
The software envelope surrounding an AI model has a major impact on the price you pay. The AI tools company Composio tested DeepSeek V4 Flash on four agent frameworks (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and Oh My Pi) across 30 tasks using real-world tools such as Gmail, GitHub, Slack, and Notion. No framework won in all categories. Oh My Pi had the highest success rate (17/30) but was the slowest at 272 seconds per task. OpenCode was the cheapest at $0.073 per successful task, while Claude Code was the fastest at 122 seconds, but also the most expensive at $0.195, despite using the fewest tool calls and generating the least output tokens.
DeepSeek V4 Flash was tested on four agent frameworks for 30 real-world tasks. The success rates were similar, but the cost and speed varied significantly.
- Oh My Pi: 17/30 successes, 272 seconds per task
- OpenCode: 14/30 successes, $0.073 per task
- Claude Code: 122 seconds per task, $0.195
The real gaps were in cost and speed, with a price difference of nearly 3x and a speed difference of 2.2x depending on the framework used.
