Claude from Anthropic Attracts Paying Consumers Against ChatGPT
According to recent analyses by Indagari, a company specializing in credit card transaction studies, Claude, the artificial intelligence developed by Anthropic, is increasingly appealing to paying consumers. This trend marks a significant shift in a market largely dominated by ChatGPT, OpenAI's flagship product.
Indagari's data, based on the analysis of billions of anonymized transactions from 28 million American consumers, reveals a positive trend for Anthropic. Although this data does not provide precise figures on revenue or total customer numbers, it allows for the observation of significant trends.
The analyzed transactions cover a period from 2025 to May 10, 2026, including payments for subscriptions and API tokens. Since January 2026, the number of paying consumers for Claude has increased by 75%, a sign of the continued expansion of its user base.
This growth has persisted even after a peak in March, when Anthropic refused to allow its models to be used by the Trump administration for mass surveillance and autonomous weapon projects.
The Rise of Claude on DataCamp
Another indicator of Claude's growing popularity comes from DataCamp, an online learning platform with approximately 20 million users. According to DataCamp, interest in Claude has exploded since the beginning of the year, with the term "Claude" becoming the most searched on their site, even surpassing "AI."
While courses on ChatGPT remain the most popular for corporate training, among self-taught consumers, demand for Claude exceeds that of ChatGPT by a ratio of three to one. In just 30 days, demand for Claude courses has increased eighteenfold.
Claude vs. ChatGPT: An Unequal Duel
Despite this impressive growth, ChatGPT remains the most popular artificial intelligence among consumers. Data from Sensor Tower shows that while Claude is experiencing good growth across all platforms, it still lags far behind ChatGPT.
ChatGPT's growth has been more modest recently, partly due to its already massive user base. However, it maintains a significantly higher number of paying users, according to Indagari.
Nonetheless, Claude is beginning to catch up in terms of revenue generated from consumers and overall recognition.
Future Challenges for Anthropic
As OpenAI and Anthropic prepare to become public companies, analyzing the foundations of their operations has generated significant interest. The impact of recent tensions between Anthropic and the U.S. government remains uncertain. The government recently banned the use of the Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models by non-Americans, prompting Anthropic to temporarily withdraw these models from the market.
Despite these challenges, available data shows that Anthropic continues to grow, both among consumers and businesses. Anthropic has declined to comment on these developments.
