French Reaction to the American Ban

This weekend, the United States made a decision that has shaken the international community: the ban on access to the artificial intelligence models Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 for foreign nationals. This measure has highlighted the global dependence on American technologies, provoking strong reactions in France.

Former Interior Minister Bruneau Retailleau expressed his concern over this situation, emphasizing that France cannot afford to be vulnerable to such unilateral decisions. Benjamin Haddad, the Minister Delegate for Europe, also stressed the need for Europe to become a major player in technological development, rather than remaining a mere market for foreign innovations.

Massive Investment in AI

In response to this situation, Sébastien Lecornu recently announced a series of measures aimed at promoting artificial intelligence in France, ahead of the VivaTech fair in Paris. Among these measures, a significant investment of 655 million euros will be made in the field of artificial intelligence. This investment, which is part of the France 2030 program, aims to strengthen France's ability to develop cutting-edge technologies independently.

In a video shared on X, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this investment to ensure that France is not at the mercy of decisions made by other countries, such as those concerning Anthropic's models.

Towards a Digital Transformation of the State

Sébastien Lecornu also stated that the time for experimentation with AI is now over, and that France will proceed with a transformation of the State through this technology. Among the initiatives, the deployment of a sovereign AI for public agents and the launch of a health assistant on Ameli by the end of the year.

These measures aim to improve the efficiency of public services while ensuring the protection of sensitive data through sovereign technological solutions. "Our digital sovereignty is non-negotiable," the Prime Minister asserted.

Development of AI Agents in Ministries

Furthermore, the government plans to gradually introduce AI agents in certain ministries, such as the Ministry of the Interior, to optimize processes such as visa processing.

The preference for French technological solutions is evident, as demonstrated by the DGSI's decision to replace the American solution Palantir with that of the French company ChapVision. This strategy underscores France's commitment to strengthening its technological independence in the field of artificial intelligence.
