Claude and Its New Interactive Capabilities

Anthropic recently announced a significant advancement for its artificial intelligence, Claude, which can now create interactive graphics, diagrams, and visualizations directly within conversations. This feature, currently in beta, was unveiled last Thursday. Although it is still in the testing phase, which means there may be some bugs, it clearly stands out from traditional AI image generators like Nano Banana. Indeed, this tool offers an innovative approach that deserves exploration to understand its potential.

A Tutorial on Changing a Tire

To evaluate this new feature, I asked Claude to show me how to change a tire. In response, Claude generated a detailed, step-by-step interactive visualization that gave me the confidence to accomplish this task. It was not just an impressive demonstration, but a more effective method than traditional text for explaining a complex process.

Enhancing Understanding with Visualizations

The visualizations created by Claude aim to enhance users' understanding of the topics discussed. Anthropic, the developer of Claude, seeks to replace long blocks of text with clear visualizations when appropriate. The system automatically assesses when a visualization is the most relevant response to facilitate information comprehension.

Examples of Interactive Visualizations

Among the fascinating examples shared by Anthropic is an interactive tutorial for making a "cool" paper airplane and an interactive periodic table that allows users to explore each element individually for additional information.

Generation of HTML and SVG Files

When Claude identifies that a visualization is the most suitable response, or when a user requests one, it instantly generates interactive HTML and SVG files. Anthropic compares this capability to providing Claude with a virtual whiteboard, ready to be used at any time.

A Strategy to Make Claude More Dynamic

This feature is part of a broader strategy by Anthropic to make Claude more dynamic and capable of choosing the best format for its responses. Although Claude is not equipped with a traditional image generator, this ability to provide relevant visualizations could have a significant impact by making them available when most useful.

Accessibility and Availability of the Feature

The feature is enabled by default, meaning there is no need to change settings to use it. It is accessible to all users, regardless of plan type, at no additional cost. Currently, it is available on web and desktop platforms, with a possible extension to mobile devices in the future.

Claude Taught Me How to Change a Tire

By making a simple request, Claude provided me with a detailed tutorial on how to change a tire on a car. I was able to observe the feature in action by asking Claude to visually show me the tire-changing process. Within seconds, it generated an interactive illustration in seven steps, including the necessary tools and clear explanations of the main steps. Although the illustrations were not extremely detailed, they effectively conveyed the information.

To explore further, I asked Claude to create an interactive visual representation of the front of a house from a book I was reading. Not only did Claude respond accurately, but almost all elements were clickable, revealing additional information about the windows or the door. This feature offers a genuine "wow" effect, and the generated illustrations can be downloaded or saved for future use in Claude.
