Claude Manages Your Accounts in Read-Only Mode, Beta Limited to the USA
Key Takeaways
1Anthropic launches Personal Finance, a financial tracking feature for Claude
2Read-only access via Plaid, with no ads or investment advice
3Feature available to paid subscribers in the United States, in beta
Why it matters : This new feature marks Claude's entry into personal finance management, with guarantees of security and privacy, but still limited in scope.

Anthropic adds a financial module to its assistant Claude with read-only access, connection via Plaid, and exclusion of conversation data from model training. The tool, free of advertisements and investment advice, remains in beta for paying subscribers in the United States.

Bank Access via Plaid, Read-Only, and Non-Reused Data

Bank connections are made through Plaid, a platform specializing in financial connections. Authentication occurs directly with the bank, without the bank password being shared with Claude. The assistant has read-only access: it can review transactions, but it cannot pay an electricity bill, send 50 euros to a third party, or make an investment. Among the data accessible to Claude are balances, transactions, account categories, and credit limits, with the ability to view up to 24 months of banking history depending on the available information. Anthropic states that exchanges made in Personal Finance are not used to train its models. The feature does not include advertisements or sponsored recommendations.

Beta Limited to Paying Subscribers and Restricted to the U.S.

Personal Finance is currently offered in beta in the United States and is reserved for Claude Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers. Free users, as well as those located outside the United States, do not have access. Usage also depends on Plaid and compatible banking institutions, which currently excludes connections from French banks.

Automated Expense Analysis and Tracking Dashboards

Claude can detect unusual movements, report unexpected fees, identify duplicate payments, or notice the gradual increase of a subscription. It calculates the interest paid on a loan and helps anticipate certain expenses. To make the information clearer, it creates graphs, bill calendars, and user-friendly dashboards. All these tools rely on examining spending habits to assist the user in managing their budget.

Account Linking and Usage Scope Without Investment Advice

To use Personal Finance, users must link their bank accounts and cards to Claude. After access is validated, the assistant can review transactions and provide responses without the user needing to check each line of the statement. This feature is not intended to provide investment advice, and Anthropic emphasizes that Claude can make mistakes: it is advisable to confirm any important information directly with one's bank before making a decision.

Partnerships Under Consideration with Financial Players

Anthropic plans to explore potential collaborations with banks, wealth managers, and other financial institutions.
