Claude by Anthropic Adds Interactive Visuals

Anthropic, the company behind the conversational assistant Claude, continues to innovate by integrating interactive visual features into its interface. Since the beginning of the year, the firm has made numerous announcements, including the introduction of Code Review in Claude Code and the launch of Claude Marketplace. Traffic to Claude has also seen an impressive increase of 297% over the past year.

Integrated visuals at the heart of interactions

On March 12, 2026, Anthropic unveiled a new feature that allows Claude to generate custom graphs, diagrams, and other interactive visual representations directly within the flow of a conversation. These visual elements appear inline, within the assistant's responses, thus providing an enhanced user experience.

Anthropic illustrates this novelty with concrete examples: asking Claude to explain compound interest results in the display of an interactive curve, while a question about the periodic table of elements generates a clickable visualization for more details. This approach is reminiscent of Google’s Gemini, launched in the summer of 2025, which aimed for educational use. However, Claude stands out for its ability to generate visuals for general use, activated proactively or upon request.

Two distinct approaches: inline visuals and Artifacts

The interactive "inline" visuals are designed to be temporary, appearing and evolving throughout the conversation. In contrast, "Artifacts" are persistent creations, displayed in a sidebar, and can be exported or shared outside of the conversation.

Simplified activation and usage

The feature is currently being rolled out in beta across all plans, including the free plan, and is enabled by default. Claude generates a visual when it deems that a graphical representation is more relevant than a text-only response. Users can also explicitly request a visual by making queries such as "draw this as a diagram" or "visualize how this evolves over time."

Once the visual is created, it can be modified by sending new messages, allowing for refinement of the representation without starting from scratch. Requests for clarifications or deeper insights on a point of the visual are also taken into account, showcasing the flexibility and interactivity of this new feature.
