Claude Opens Up to Personal Applications
Anthropic, the company behind the virtual assistant Claude, has recently expanded its scope by integrating new connectors for personal applications. This initiative now allows users to access a variety of services such as Spotify, Uber, AllTrails, TripAdvisor, Instacart, and TurboTax directly through Claude. This evolution marks a shift from Claude's initial focus, which primarily centered on professional applications, particularly those from Microsoft.
Connectors Inspired by ChatGPT
Some of the integrated applications, like Spotify, already benefit from similar connectors in OpenAI's ChatGPT. With this integration, Claude can suggest relevant applications during conversations, for example, recommending AllTrails for hiking ideas. Anthropic clarified in a blog post that data from connected applications is not used to train their AI models. Additionally, the application cannot access other conversations you have with Claude, and it is possible to disconnect an application at any time.
Transparency and User Control
Anthropic also emphasized that there are no paid placements or sponsored responses in interactions with Claude. When multiple applications are relevant, Claude presents the results ranked by usefulness. Before taking actions such as making a purchase or a reservation through a connected application, Claude requests user verification.
Availability and Management of Connectors
The new connectors are already available to all Claude users, regardless of their plan. To browse or add applications, simply select the "connectors" option in the "customize" tab of Claude's sidebar.
