CNB Provides Jimini's AI to 4,000 Trainee Lawyers

The National Bar Council will deploy the French legal tech tool Jimini AI for free to the 11 law schools. This one-year program emphasizes sovereignty, security, and compliance with continental law, as foreign competition establishes itself in Paris.
Sovereignty and Market: A Choice Against Harvey and Legora
Competition in artificial intelligence applied to law is intensifying, with the recent arrival in Paris of foreign companies such as Harvey (United States) and Legora (Sweden). The National Bar Council highlights sovereignty and security to justify the choice of the French startup Jimini AI. According to Raphaël Arroche, CEO of Jimini, the solution was designed to meet the specificities of continental law, while many tools on the market are primarily adapted to Anglo-Saxon legal systems.
Free Access for One Year in 11 Law Schools
The partnership between the CNB and Jimini AI is set for a duration of one year and is expected to allow more than 4,000 trainee lawyers from the 11 French schools to access the tool for free during their initial training in the coming weeks. This is the CNB's first partnership with a French startup. The amount of the agreement has not been disclosed and will depend on the level of usage of the solution by the trainee lawyers.
Defined Uses: Research, Analysis, and Drafting on Educational Files
A workspace will be made available to each trainee lawyer so they can test various features of the tool, such as legal research, document analysis, drafting assistance, or preparing work related to advisory and litigation. The automation activities will only concern files intended for educational purposes, without resorting to real client files. Training resources are planned to raise awareness among students about the biases and hallucination risks inherent in artificial intelligence tools.

Adoption and Product Positioning According to Jimini AI
Jimini AI presents its solution as transversal, aimed at all future lawyers, regardless of their specialty. Raphaël Arroche, CEO of Jimini, notes that there is already a high registration rate among students to use the tool. The company claims more than 10,000 users, including the law firm Gide and the legal service of CMA CGM. Jimini AI was founded in 2023.
Professional Practice: No Overhaul of Rules, But Application to Tools
Some tasks traditionally assigned to young lawyers could be automated, but Julie Couturier, president of the CNB, believes that artificial intelligence will not replace the lawyer, who must maintain critical thinking and remain responsible. She considers that the relationship with the client is becoming more horizontal, with clients being increasingly informed thanks to AI, which forces the lawyer to be even sharper. The CNB does not deem it necessary, at this stage, to thoroughly review the ethical rules of the profession, reminding that professional secrecy, confidentiality, and the obligation of competence already apply and must be adapted to new tools. The institution recommends prioritizing solutions specific to the legal profession rather than general public AI tools. Julie Couturier indicates that 62% of practicing lawyers already use artificial intelligence and describes the idea of training future lawyers without these tools as nonsense.
