Cohere Unveils Command A+ as Open Source

The Canadian artificial intelligence company Cohere has recently announced the open-source release of its most advanced language model, Command A+. This model is now available under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing free use and modification by developers and businesses.

A Powerful and Flexible Model

Command A+ is based on a mixture-of-experts architecture, incorporating an impressive total of 218 billion parameters, of which 25 billion are actively utilized. Cohere states that this model can operate efficiently on two Nvidia H100 GPUs or a single Blackwell GPU, showcasing its flexibility and power.

Multilingual and Multimodal Capabilities

Designed to meet the needs of businesses, Command A+ is optimized for various tasks such as agentic processes, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and multilingual document processing. It supports 48 languages and is capable of handling both text and images simultaneously, with an extended context window of 128,000 tokens.

Improved Performance on Benchmarks

The performance of Command A+ surpasses that of its predecessor, Command A Reasoning, with scores increasing from 37% to 85% on the τ²-Bench Telecom index and from 3% to 25% on the Terminal-Bench Hard test. On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, the model achieves nearly 37 points, positioning itself alongside models such as Claude 4.5 Haiku and Mistral Medium 3.5.

Availability and Strategic Acquisition

The weights of the Command A+ model are available on the Hugging Face platform, offering several quantization options for users. This announcement closely follows Cohere's acquisition of the German AI company Aleph Alpha, signaling a strategic expansion in the field of artificial intelligence.
