Google Transforms Tab Management with Its AI Mode on Chrome
Google has recently introduced a new feature on Chrome, called AI mode, which promises to revolutionize the way users manage their tabs during online searches. This innovation allows users to display visited websites side by side with the search window, simplifying navigation and reducing the number of tabs open simultaneously.
A Side-by-Side Display for Simplified Navigation
The AI mode on Chrome now offers the ability to open a related site directly next to your search window. This approach aims to reduce the clutter caused by opening multiple tabs. For example, if you are searching for a coffee machine suitable for your apartment, AI mode will show you an AI-generated summary and links to retailers. By clicking on one of these links, the site appears next to your initial search, making it easier to compare and consult information.
Another example of using this feature is when you are looking for information on a tech product. Among the related results used for the AI preview, you might find an article from ZDNET. By clicking on the link, the article displays side by side with AI mode, allowing you to ask Google additional questions about the product while reviewing the article.
Searching Among Recent Tabs
Another notable feature is the ability to search among your recent tabs. By using the More menu on the New Tab page or in AI mode, you can select and integrate these tabs into your current search. This option is particularly useful for students or researchers juggling numerous documents and online resources.
For instance, if you are studying for an exam or working on an assignment, your open tabs may be filled with class notes, lecture slides, and academic articles. Depending on the content of these tabs, you can ask Google to suggest other sites to visit.
Deployment and Availability
Currently, these new features are being rolled out in the United States, with initial availability in American English. Google plans to expand these capabilities to other regions soon. To access these features, users must have Chrome version 146.0.7680.174 or higher. Simply check and update your version of Chrome via the Help menu to take advantage of these enhancements.
For now, AI mode is only available on Chrome for desktop, even if you are using the standard Google search engine through another browser. However, Google is considering expanding this accessibility to a larger number of users across the web.
