Since its inception in 2017, Project Maven has been designed to apply computer vision to images captured by drones, thereby revolutionizing the military targeting process.
However, the project has not been without controversy. Google, initially involved as the primary military contractor, faced internal protests from its employees. They opposed the use of the company's technology for military purposes, which ultimately led Google to withdraw from the project.
