Claude Code: A Powerful Tool for Content Auditing

During a recent session on Claude Code, a user posed a pertinent question: "How can I use Claude Code effectively?" This inquiry highlighted a fundamental need for understanding the capabilities of this innovative tool.

Often, in the enthusiasm to explain how to set up Claude Code, we forget to specify why this tool is essential. Many are still not convinced by this new approach to work.

That's why I decided to launch a series titled Conversations with Claude. This series aims to demonstrate the utility of Claude Code in various professional contexts.

To kick off this series, I chose a complex use case: a content audit for Product Talk. This process, which seemed daunting, turned out to be surprisingly simple thanks to Claude. I will detail the conversation I had with Claude, explain the preparations that led to this success, and show how Claude helped me fill a major content gap.

If you're just starting with Claude Code, this article is a good starting point.

💡 This series is inspired by my personal experience with Claude Code. I am a passionate user and love sharing my successes with my readers.

I want to clarify that I have not received any compensation from Anthropic for this series. If that were to change, I commit to disclosing it, in accordance with FTC requirements in the United States and for the sake of transparency.

The Product Talk Content Audit by Claude

SEO is a field I often neglect, even though I know its importance for growing my audience. I usually choose my topics based on my personal interests, which is not the best strategy for attracting a broad audience.

For a long time, I wanted to conduct a content audit, but I lacked the time. So, I decided to delegate this task to Claude.

I asked Claude to assist me with this project. I instructed him to first ask all necessary questions, then work methodically by adding notes to the task file as he progressed.

I shared with Claude the content audit task file, which included instructions to extract keywords from the CDH book, obtain search volumes, assess blog coverage, and suggest improvements.

Claude began by identifying the CDH book, which consists of 15 chapters and an introduction, as well as the archives of Product Talk. Before diving in, Claude asked several questions to clarify expectations:

  • What types of keywords to focus on: only those related to Teresa's work or include broader product management terms?
  • Which geography to target for the keywords: only the United States or also other countries?
  • How to assess blog coverage: is a deep article sufficient or should mentions in broader articles also be considered?
  • What output format to use for the results: add them to the task file or create a separate document?

Teresa responded:

  1. Include both types of keywords.
  2. Focus on the United States to start.
  3. Assess coverage based on ranking for the keyword; suggest improvements if the ranking is low.
  4. Add the results directly to the task file.

Claude then analyzed the 15 chapters of the CDH book, extracted about 100 keywords, and processed them through Keywords Everywhere. He also retrieved the current domain rankings and traffic metrics for producttalk.org.

Claude concluded the audit with a summary of the results:

  • Producttalk.org is well-ranked for its brand terms like "product discovery," "opportunity solution tree," "continuous discovery," and "product trio."
  • Gaps exist on broad topics covered by the CDH but without targeted content, such as "Outcomes vs Outputs" (1,300/mo) and "Product Roadmap" (4,400/mo).
  • Opportunities exist to attract new readers with high search volume topics like "story mapping" (5,400/mo), "stakeholder management" (2,900/mo), and "pre-mortem" (4,400/mo).

Claude added all the details, keyword volumes, SERP positions, and recommendations for 15+ new articles to the task file.

In just a few minutes, Claude generated:

  • A keyword analysis with their rankings.
  • A list of high, medium, and low volume keywords for which there was no ranking.
  • Suggestions for new topics to fill the gaps.
  • Recommendations to improve the ranking of existing articles.

This experience exceeded my expectations.

Setting Up Claude for a Successful Content Audit

For Claude to conduct an effective content audit, I provided access to my book and blog articles in markdown file format.

It is crucial not to simply ask Claude.ai to perform a content audit without preparation. Here’s how I set up the process:

  • I established relevant context files.
  • I used specific APIs to enrich the analysis.
  • I iterated with Claude to refine the results.

I will also explain how I wrote a long article to fill one of the biggest content gaps identified by Claude.
