Cursor and SpaceX: iOS App for Coding on the Go

Cursor, recently acquired by SpaceX for the staggering sum of $60 billion, continues to evolve its services by launching a new mobile application for iOS devices. This app, announced on Monday, allows users to interact with coding agents directly from their phones, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Cursor 2.0, unveiled in October.

Cursor 2.0 has shifted the service towards independent coding agents, and this mobile application not only enables the creation of new agents but also allows interaction with those already initiated via the desktop client. This advancement is part of a broader trend where AI-based coding tools are increasingly focusing on supervising code-writing agents rather than writing code itself.

This move towards mobile is not isolated. Companies like Anthropic and OpenAI have also developed similar applications, enabling mobile interaction with their coding tools. This reflects a shift in development practices, where developers now prefer using phones for ongoing interactions with coding agents, moving away from traditional desktop setups.

Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code at Anthropic, recently shared his experience during a talk, emphasizing that he has almost entirely transitioned to mobile coding. "Most of my coding is now done on my phone," he stated, adding that he would have found this idea absurd just six months ago.
