AI Takes Center Stage in Software Development
Michael Truell, CEO of Cursor, has noticed a significant trend in the field of software development. AI-based coding agents are increasingly being used without human intervention.
Cursor recently released data revealing that the proportion of code changes generated by AI that reach production without manual review has significantly increased over the past six months. This evolution indicates that developers are becoming more comfortable with the idea of letting AI autonomously handle larger parts of the software development process.
Increasing Reliability of AI Code
Although Cursor does not directly measure the quality of fully autonomous code, the company emphasizes that AI-generated code is surviving at higher rates than before. This suggests that developers find AI production increasingly reliable.
In numbers, the share of code changes generated by AI reaching production without manual review has risen from 7% at the beginning of 2026 to 36.3% by mid-May. This rapid increase reflects the growing trust placed in AI within software development.
