ElevenLabs Launches Music v2.5 with API and App, Usage Framework Clarified

ElevenLabs launches Music v2.5 on its application and via an API, offering both a free and a Pro version. The company emphasizes that its model is trained on licensed content, clarifying that its recent agreement with Universal Music Group does not include this product, and claims quality gains measured in blind tests.
The deal with UMG does not include Music v2.5, licensed-trained models
ElevenLabs recently signed a licensing agreement with Universal Music Group, but specifies that this agreement only pertains to future distinct products and does not include Music v2.5. The company states that it has trained its existing Music models on stems and licensed music, without detailing the exact nature of the data used. This is in contrast to Suno, which is currently facing legal action for training its models on protected content without the permission of rights holders. Suno has also introduced new models this week.

Open application and API, two offers, rights retained, and safeguards
Music v2.5 is accessible via ElevenLabs' application and API. Two plans are offered: the free option allows for five lossless downloads per day, while the Pro plan permits 400 downloads per month. Users retain rights to the generated tracks. Commercial use is possible depending on the industry and purpose, but the free offer requires attribution. Downloads of tracks derived from songs by other artists are blocked, and imitation of existing musicians is not permitted. The Music v2 version remains available.
Blind tests: 47,885 comparisons favoring v2.5
During a blind experiment involving 47,885 pairs for comparison, Music v2.5 was favored by listeners in most situations, particularly for R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Rock, and orchestral music styles. According to ElevenLabs, the tracks produced by this version are considered richer and more natural.
