Elon Musk Unveils Macrohard with Tesla and xAI
Elon Musk recently revealed details about his ambitious project called Macrohard, a collaboration between Tesla and the artificial intelligence lab xAI. This project, which appears to be a humorous response to Microsoft, is compared to a digital Optimus, Tesla's humanoid robot. Macrohard is part of an investment agreement between the two companies.
An Innovative AI Agent
The project aims to create a type of artificial intelligence agent capable of automating work in businesses. At the heart of Macrohard is Grok, described by Musk as a "conductor/navigator" who, thanks to its deep understanding of the world, directs a "Digital Optimus." This system processes and implements the last five seconds of video in real-time from the computer screen along with keyboard and mouse actions. Grok is presented as a much more advanced and sophisticated version of step-by-step navigation software.
A Strategic Collaboration
Macrohard could offer a product similar to Claude Cowork from Anthropic, allowing client companies to delegate tasks to an AI capable of connecting to various tools. Elon Musk indicates that Macrohard will be able to "emulate the functionality of entire companies." This collaboration between Tesla and xAI could provide a significant competitive advantage. The system will primarily rely on Tesla's more affordable AI4 chip but will also be able to use Nvidia chips from xAI when necessary.
An Ambitious Vision
In October, Musk had already mentioned the goal of Macrohard: to create a company capable of managing everything except the direct manufacturing of physical objects. However, Macrohard will be able to carry out this manufacturing indirectly, much like Apple, which outsources the production of its devices. This approach could transform the way companies delegate and automate their processes, relying on sophisticated artificial intelligence to optimize their operations. The name "Macrohard" is also a way to troll Microsoft, adding a touch of humor to this serious project.
