Ema Raises $77M and Claims 80% Margin, 180% NDR

The startup Ema, specializing in orchestrating AI agents for business processes, is showing strong growth indicators and high gross profitability. It has completed a $77 million funding round to bolster its sales and prepare for expansion beyond the United States and Europe.
Strong Commercial Indicators and High Margins
Ema claims to have over 50 active enterprise contracts, more than 1 million active enterprise users, and over 5 million actions and queries processed. Among its references are NTT DATA, Hitachi, ADP, PwC, Google, KPMG, Wipro, and Microsoft. The company states that its revenue has increased 50-fold in two years and that its revenue bookings have surpassed $150 million. Surojit Chatterjee clarifies that these bookings correspond to the total value of multi-year contracts, including two- and three-year commitments, and do not constitute an ARR, and he does not disclose the current annualized revenue rate. According to him, over 90% of clients are expanding their usage beyond the initial use case, and the net dollar retention rate is around 180%. He adds that Ema has maintained gross margins close to 80% and that the need for human support decreases as systems learn, contributing to margin improvement. In terms of its business model, Ema does not charge based on software licenses or the number of AI tokens consumed, but ties its pricing to task completion and business outcomes.
Multi-Agent Product and Collaboration with AI Labs
Ema's technology, described as "AI employees," coordinates multiple agents to execute multi-step processes within existing applications. Surojit Chatterjee does not view leading labs as direct competitors, indicating that Ema's software can leverage over 150 models, whether cutting-edge or open source. He emphasizes the industry expertise, integrations, and orchestration necessary for end-to-end automation, and believes that advancements in leading models benefit Ema. At the same time, Anthropic is expanding the integration of Claude into companies' financial and legal operations, while OpenAI is deploying engineers alongside clients to industrialize AI.

Funding, Organization, and Planned International Expansion
Ema has raised $77 million in a Series B round led by Creaegis, based in Bangalore, with increased participation from Accel, Section 32, and Prosus. Cumulative funds have reached $140 million, and the valuation has increased more than fourfold since 2024, although the latest valuation has not been disclosed. The round consisted solely of primary equity, with no debt or secondary transactions, according to the startup. Surojit Chatterjee plans to allocate a significant portion of this capital to accelerate go-to-market operations, particularly sales and marketing. Ema has nearly 200 employees, is headquartered in Mountain View, and has offices in Bangalore, London, and Vancouver. After focusing on the United States and Europe, the company plans to expand into the Asia-Pacific region, South America, and certain parts of the Middle East next year.
Aiming for Partial Replacement of Software and Services
Ema automates processes in human resources, IT, and finance, with the ambition of taking over more tasks currently performed by enterprise software and IT services. Surojit Chatterjee believes this approach will reduce reliance on traditional software, including SaaS. He describes a method of first wrapping existing applications, then reducing dependence, and even replacing them in some cases, stating that many clients are already substituting large applications, relegated to the role of databases. He also anticipates that AI will handle part of the implementation, integration, and consulting services around software, noting that many service companies are working with Ema and rethinking their models, which they see as less necessarily human-centered. This trajectory comes as AI competes for software and services budgets with a multitude of players, and Ema states its intention to expand its position in this market.
