Google Expands Gemini to 16 New Countries, Including France

Google has officially launched Gemini, its advanced conversational assistant, on smart speakers in 16 new countries, including France. This rollout, announced on April 7, 2026, allows French users to sign up to test this new technology.

Initially presented in October 2025 in the United States, Gemini for Home is a version specifically designed for Google Home and Nest speakers, offering unprecedented features such as the "Gemini Live" mode for continuous interactions with AI.

The Gemini experience was first launched in preview in the United States, before gradually expanding to Canada and Mexico. Now, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia are among the fortunate countries to welcome this technology.

Enhanced Features for Google Speakers

With the arrival of Gemini, Google Home and Nest speakers see their capabilities significantly improved. They can now answer complex questions, perform multiple actions simultaneously, and customize routines for the home. The assistant is capable of maintaining extended conversations while keeping track of previous exchanges.

This advancement allows for better understanding of natural language, facilitating vague requests or multiple instructions in a single sentence, such as finding a song based on a vague description.

Gemini gradually adapts to user habits, making the experience smoother and more intuitive on a daily basis. With this rollout, Google becomes the first major player to integrate a generative artificial intelligence service directly into its smart speakers, outpacing the upcoming versions of Siri at Apple and Alexa+ at Amazon.

How to Install Gemini in France

The rollout of Gemini is gradual. To benefit from it quickly, users must sign up for the early access program via the Google Home app. Once registered, they should receive access to Gemini within a week.

All Google Home and Nest speakers, including older models like the Google Home from 2016 and Nest Mini, are compatible. However, some features, such as the Gemini Live mode, require newer devices, such as the Nest Audio or Nest Hub displays. Only models released after 2019 will be able to fully enjoy these features.

A Market Awaiting New Hardware

Currently, Google is no longer offering speakers for sale on its website, as all are out of stock. However, this situation could change with the possible announcement of a new Google Home Speaker at the Google I/O 2026, scheduled for May 19. This new device could fully leverage the capabilities of Gemini and mark a turning point in Google's hardware offerings.
