Fable 5 from Anthropic: Imminent Return After Trump’s Green Light
Anthropic's latest AI model, Fable 5, could be back on the market in a few days, according to Axios. A source close to the matter indicates that the Trump administration is set to lift the restrictions. Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, informed Anthropic via letter that the company had "worked with the U.S. government to address the risks." The Pentagon and NSA still need to give their approval.
Fable 5 was halted on June 12 at the behest of the U.S. government due to security concerns. Mythos 5, the variant without additional security restrictions that Anthropic also had to withdraw, is already back for some partners.
It remains uncertain whether Fable 5 will face ongoing restrictions after its release, similar to GPT-5.6 Sol, or if it will be available globally immediately. OpenAI does not expect to receive full approval for its own model for several weeks. Anthropic and OpenAI are now advocating for a legally defined review process for new AI models, rather than case-by-case decisions.
