Fenix Flexin: The Shadow of Treblo AI Hangs Over 'Rubberz'

It appears that Fenix Flexin may have used the AI music generator Treblo. The company's new detection tool indicates that the song is "very likely Treblo."

On Monday, the company announced the Treblo AI Music Classifier, an open-source tool that detects when a song has been generated using Treblo, but not other AI tools. According to a blog post, it has a false positive rate of less than 1 in 10,000. While it is not infallible, it is noteworthy that the company's Classifier determined that "Rubberz" was "very likely Treblo" with "high confidence," adding more fuel to the PR crisis for Fenix.

Treblo seems to appreciate the attention. "The classifier returns a very high probability score for Rubberz, indicating that the released audio was generated almost entirely by our model. This would make it the first known AI-generated song to reach the Billboard Hot 100," said CEO Ryan Tremblay in a statement to The Verge. He added, "Someone seems to have used our model to find a sound that millions of people connected with, and that's exciting."

Unsurprisingly, "Rubberz" is "very likely" an AI creation.

Fenix continues to deny that Rubberz was created using AI and has released snippets of what it claims are the project files from the recording session. However, these low-quality videos have hardly succeeded in dispelling allegations that the song was AI-generated. According to Stereogum, Medasin claimed in an expired Instagram story that Fenix clearly used an AI stem separator to simulate the session.

Fenix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
