Fidji Simo Steps Down from OpenAI

Fidji Simo, a prominent figure in the artificial intelligence sector, has recently announced her departure from her position as CEO of OpenAI's applications, where she oversaw ChatGPT among other projects. The former leader of Instacart has decided to become a part-time advisor to focus on her health, which has been affected by a chronic illness.

She shared on X that three months ago, she had to take a medical leave due to a severe flare-up of her chronic illness, which she has been battling for seven years. She realized that her recovery would require more time and effort than anticipated, and she chose to fully dedicate herself to it.

Regrets Over Misplaced Priorities

Fidji Simo expressed regrets about her late decision to prioritize her health. She mentioned that during her leave, many called her brave for putting her health first. However, she acknowledged that this decision should have been made earlier, as she had failed to do so multiple times.

She also revealed that after two years of illness, Facebook had offered her an entire year of medical leave. Despite Mark Zuckerberg's advice to think long-term, she had not taken the time to reflect on this offer.
