Figma Integrates an AI Agent into Its Collaborative Workspace
An AI Agent Directly Integrated into the Workspace
Figma recently announced the integration of an AI agent directly into its collaborative design tool. This new assistant is specifically designed for product design and utilizes the components, variables, and design systems unique to each team to produce results that adhere to established standards. The goal is to significantly reduce the time spent on low-value tasks.
The integration of this AI agent stands out for its simplicity: it operates directly within the collaborative workspace, without requiring any tool changes or separate configurations. The AI models have been specially tailored for Figma, enabling them to understand product design concepts, interface conventions, and platform-specific use cases.
According to Loredana Crisan, Chief Design Officer at Figma, as software creation becomes more accessible, it is crucial to determine priorities, desired features, and user experience.
The AI agent is accessible from the left menu of the Figma Design interface or via a prompt on any selected layer. It is possible to launch multiple instances of the agent simultaneously and easily switch between AI assistance and direct manipulation. The AI agent can notably:
- Explore creative avenues by generating multiple stylistic variations or information architectures from a single prompt.
- Automate bulk modifications, such as updating typography, replacing lorem ipsum text with realistic content, or switching components to their active state.
- Convert designs to dark mode.
- Manage design system documentation by generating descriptions and standardizing naming conventions.
- Process feedback by synthesizing comments and proposing revisions that incorporate the input received.
This development aligns with Figma's strategy to open up its canvas, initiated last March with the introduction of the use_figma tool. This tool allows third-party agents, such as Claude Code or Codex, to write directly into design files via Figma's MCP server.
An Intelligent Assistant for Design and Product Teams
Figma's AI agent, functioning as an AI collaborator, could significantly ease the workload for design and product teams. For designers, it reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on creative decisions. For product teams, the agent provides direct access to design creation without requiring a designer's intervention.
The AI agent also offers an integrated workflow with Figma Make, enabling the transformation of designs into interactive prototypes and testing their behavior.
How to Access Figma's AI Agent?
The AI agent is currently being deployed in beta within Figma Design. During this phase, it does not consume any AI credits. The feature is available to users with a Full license on the Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans.
Interested users can join a waiting list to test the agent in advance. The models operate in multiple languages, but the experience is optimized for American English.
