Figma, the collaborative design platform, has recently reached a new milestone by integrating an AI assistant into its collaborative canvas. This advancement is the result of strategic partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, which have enabled the incorporation of AI command line tools such as Claude Code and Codex. Now, Figma offers its own version of artificial intelligence, allowing users to leverage these technologies directly within their design environment.
Figma's AI agent allows users to use natural language prompts to generate new designs, modify existing creations, or automate repetitive tasks, such as generating design iterations. This system also enables multiple agents to be activated simultaneously to perform various tasks, thereby optimizing workflow.
According to Figma, this AI assistant is designed to understand design contexts and elements through models specifically tailored for this purpose. Loredana Crisan, Figma's design director, emphasizes that this innovation allows teams to focus on what matters: defining the project direction, testing ideas, and refining concepts without being bogged down by the most tedious tasks.
The AI agent will initially be deployed in Figma Design, with an extension planned for other company products. Figma aims to bring design and code even closer together in its applications, thereby enhancing the integration of these two crucial aspects of development.
In a context of intense competition with players like Canva, Adobe, Flora, Krea, and Dessn, Figma has taken steps to strengthen its position. The acquisition of Weavy, a node-based design tool, and the addition of new image editing features illustrate this strategy.
Despite concerns about the impact of AI on designers' work, Figma has shown solid financial performance. In the first quarter of 2026, the company achieved a revenue of $333.4 million, marking a 46% increase compared to the previous year.
