Firefox Tests AI Autofill and Web Page Monitoring
Key Takeaways
1The new Smart Window features are arriving in beta on desktop in the United States and Canada, with international rollout planned in the coming months.
2The AI form filling utilizes open tabs, sharing source data with Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite to generate suggestions.
3Page monitoring is set up via “/watch,” notifies through the Tasks button or the desktop, and stops after 90 days without changes.
Why it matters : Smart Window adds tangible assistance for filling out forms and automated monitoring, with a precise framework for use and cessation, and currently limited geographical availability.

Mozilla adds two features to Smart Window, Firefox's AI interface: a form-filling tool that draws from open tabs and a page monitoring system to detect changes. These features are rolling out in beta on desktop in the United States and Canada, with scheduled notification and stop rules, and an expansion planned to other countries in the coming months.

Limited Beta and Activation, Notification, and Stop Rules

The two features are being deployed in the beta version of Smart Window on desktop in the United States and Canada. Mozilla plans to make them available in other countries in the coming months. Page monitoring can be scheduled for daily or weekly checks, but only when Firefox is open. When a change matching the request is detected, a notification appears via the Tasks button in the toolbar or on the desktop if system notifications are enabled. If no changes are detected for 60 days, monitoring is paused, and then completely stopped after 90 days.

Form Filling from Open Tabs

Smart Window offers an assistance feature for filling out online forms using information from open tabs. This feature activates on a form with at least four text fields, prompting the option "Fill from sources" that lists the tabs in use. The user can choose or exclude tabs to be considered, and Firefox then generates suggestions based on their content. Currently, only text fields in web forms are supported, but Mozilla is working to extend compatibility to dropdown menus and PDFs. Data from the source pages is sent to Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite, which produces the text suggestions. For example, Smart Window can extract information from an online portfolio or a LinkedIn page to complete the work experience section of an application.

Configurable Page Monitoring from Chat

Smart Window also allows users to monitor web pages for promotions, new job offers, or other updates. To set up this monitoring, simply enter the command "/watch" in the Smart Window chat, describe what you want to track, and add the relevant pages.
