Fitbit Democratizes Its AI Coach: Advanced Health Tools for Everyone
Fitbit, the well-known fitness device brand under Google's umbrella, has recently announced a significant expansion of its AI health coach service, named Coach. This initiative aims to make the advanced features of Coach accessible to a broader audience, including those who are not subscribed to the Premium version.
Expanded Access to Gemini AI
Initially launched in October for Premium Android subscribers in the United States, Coach is powered by Google's Gemini AI. Premium subscribers, who pay $10 per month or $80 per year, have enjoyed exclusive features such as a sleep coach, a health advisor connected to medical records, and a fitness trainer. However, Fitbit has gradually expanded access to these tools, integrating iOS users and diversifying the countries of access.
Features for Everyone
Now, thanks to the Public Preview program, even users without a Premium subscription can explore the features of Coach. This program allows tracking various aspects of health, fitness, and sleep. Among the new features available:
-
Cycle Health: This feature allows users to log their periods and associated symptoms in a calendar. Premium members receive personalized insights into their menstrual cycles.
-
Mental Well-being: Users can record their moods and mindfulness sessions. A stress management score, called resilience, is provided to assess the body's response to stress.
-
Nutrition and Hydration Tracking: Users can track their caloric and hydration intake, log their meals, and receive personalized nutritional recommendations based on macronutrients.
A Collaborative Future
Users also have the opportunity to test future features of the Fitbit app, still in development, and provide feedback to Google. Premium subscribers, on the other hand, can benefit from personalized fitness plans and ask questions directly to Coach.
For now, Fitbit has not provided additional comments on this expansion, but this initiative marks an important step towards greater accessibility of digital health tools.
