FL Studio 2026: Gopher, the Innovative AI Music Assistant

Gopher is now much more than just an interactive instruction manual.

Last year, Image Line introduced Gopher for FL Studio, an AI chatbot that essentially served as an enhanced instruction manual. You could ask it questions about how to perform certain tasks, and it would provide you with the relevant instructions. It's the kind of tool I actually use with AI on a semi-regular basis. But in this new version, Gopher can actually execute actions on your behalf. I was able to ask Gopher to create a four-on-the-floor kick, with snares on the backbeat, and then add filtered reverb to the snare to achieve that '80s sound, and it executed the instructions perfectly.

However, Gopher has certain limitations. It cannot create and draw automation for you. It cannot insert notes or chords into melodic tracks. And it cannot select specific presets in plugins. Therefore, if you ask it to load a Rhodes electric piano sound, it will create a track with the modified Flex instrument loaded, but the search for a Rhodes patch is up to you. Image Line also clarifies that it does not train its AI on user data—your recording session remains private.

The completely rebuilt Flex is another standout feature of FL Studio 2026. Flex is Image Line's versatile virtual instrument, similar to Native Instruments Kontakt, with dozens of sound packs available covering everything from vintage synthesizers to realistic guitars and strange soundscapes. The new preset browser features improved filters and genre categories, while the engine itself has become much less resource-intensive.

Image Line has also added automatic cloud backups for projects intended for FL Cloud subscribers and a new "always-listening audio recorder" that captures the last 60 seconds of the main output. So even if you forget to hit "record," you can still save that idea.
